How can you apply for the CPA exam in New York?
Well, you can’t. New York doesn’t take CPAs. (Though they take other people and companies to do audits of them, which is much like what you’d have to do if you were a CPA.)
Candidates who wish to practice their professional skills by working towards achieving their certification in other states or provinces may want to register with that state’s board of accountancy. For example, the State Board of Accountancy in Connecticut will accept candidates from outside New York State provided they can provide the required documentation indicating their eligibility.
If you are an international candidate seeking status on the International CPA Exam (ICPE), please refer to our How To Apply for ICPE section. We also provide helpful information on applying for your ICPE designation via your home country.
