Bring the cast iron directly from the oven to a stovetop burner.
To avoid damaging the cast iron, you want to avoid moving it from one burner to another. The first rule of cooking with cast iron is to keep your newly-baked NY strip from one place to another.
Preheat your oven before adding cast iron to it.
Preheat your oven before adding cast iron to it.
Preheat your oven to its highest temperature possible, and then turn off the heat immediately after preheating. Please do not leave any burner turned on, or else it will cause damage to your cast iron cookware or even burn yourself when trying to remove the hot pan from the stovetop after cooking food inside it!
If using gas-powered kitchen appliances like stoves and microwaves, ensure they have been turned off beforehand so as not to cause any unwanted accidents while handling hot pans full of water while cleaning them up later (which could be hazardous).
Don’t cover the top of your oven when roasting food.
Start with high heat, lower the heat for an even cooking process, then turn off the heat.
The first step to cooking the NY strip in cast iron and oven is to start with high heat. Then, lower the heat for an even cooking process, and then turn off the heat. This will prevent flare-ups and uneven browning on each piece of fish.
Wash your cast iron cookware thoroughly before using it.
To clean your cast iron cookware:
- Use a sponge or brush to remove any dirt from the surface.
- Wash it with a mild detergent and rinse thoroughly with hot water. You can also use soft cloths to wipe down the surface of your cast iron skillet before you start cooking in it.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool pads; these will scratch the pan’s surface and make food stick faster than usual.
If you need to figure out how much soap to add when washing your pans, don’t worry! Just try one tablespoon per quart of water (or whatever measurement matches up with what size pot/pan you have).
You can cook any strip in cast iron and oven.
Cast iron is a good material for cooking because it can be used for baking, frying, grilling, and sautéing. It’s also durable and easy to clean.
Cast iron is made from iron and silicon (silicon oxide) alloy. The iron gives cast-iron cookware its strength, while the silicon makes it non-stick, so you don’t have to worry about sticking your food during cooking!
